Digital Fasting
I am currently on a digital fasting, trying to minimise my consumption of content over internet. But I have to be here for work, and to learn things I care about. Even though I am not on any social media, some of the nonsense happening in the society still reaches me indirectly. It’s incredibly hard to be connected to internet and avoid consuming nonsense. And this is not going to change anytime soon, unfortunately.
As an uninterested spectator of all these nonsense, I feel the problem is not platform specific. You can open any online public platform where anyone can add content and notice, that people in general are stupid when on a public platforms. I doubt they are so in their private life, because in private communications the nonsense behaviour is not rewarding. By doing something nonsense on the public platform, people can find other like-minded people patting their back which gives them a sense of pride.
While I cannot do anything to fix it, I will continue to try to restrict what I consume on internet and what reaches me indirectly. I also wish to completely move to slow communication mediums like emails for all my communications because I feel people are more thoughtful at communication on mediums where they cannot edit or delete it later on, it also adds a filter to nonsense as it’s not as rewarding and instant.
